Monaco

Getting to Monaco

🚂 To get to Monaco I took the TER from Nice. It's about a 25/30 min ride and usually very cheap (between 5-10 euros). I bought the tickets through the SNCF website. You can also buy them from the kiosks at the Nice train station.

🚘 To drive it would be about 1 hours from Nice according to google maps.

✈️ There is now a helicopter ride that you can take from Nice to Monaco which has officially been added on my bucket list to do.

🛥️ Depending on the time of year. You can also get to Monaco by boat.

Our day trip to Monaco (2024)

*My most recent trip recap.*

Monaco:

We arrived early in the morning at the "Gare de Nice-Ville" to take the train to Monaco, arriving in Monte Carlo. Make sure to bring your passport with you if you're not european since this is a different country. This has been a bucket list country for me to visit since I was little. I used to say that I wanted to run there so that I could say that I've run the distance of the country. While it's still a possible goal, younger me had no idea how hilly the country is! There were lot's of bikers that I saw though. We arrived early and it was a very rainy day. However, I didn't feel like I missed out from the weather. We first tried to walk to "le jardin exotique." Along the way we discovered "Fontvieille Park" and "the Princess Grace Rose Garden." It was a beautiful garden with lot's of good views of the oceanside. There were playgrounds there as well where it was nice to see children playing and enjoying the park. Once we made it to Le Jardin Exotique (it took us a bit to find with our bad direction skills), we learned it was closed! So we started to make our way in the direction of the casino looking at a place to stop for lunch on the way. On the walk there, we passed Le Porte Hercule where a lot of the races take place as well. There was going to be a race the following day as well and so we got to see a bit of the set up which was cool. Close to the casino, we found an Italian restaurant to eat at. Afterwards we headed to the casino. Make sure that you look up acceptable clothing attire before you go so you don't get stopped at the door. Along the way we passed a lot of (what looked like) very fancy cars. It was free to get into the entrance of the casino which was all that we were looking to do. Afterwards we headed back to the train station. Monaco is definitely a country worth visiting if you're in the area! The architecture there is really cool with how they have built the country for their population and the amount of area they have.

Food

Food was not my priority for this trip.

We only ate lunch there- and we just looked for a decent priced place to eat.

I would even suggest grabbing easy food or bringing a picnic with you and focusing more on the views and the sites.
