Athens
Getting to Athens
✈️ We flew from Athens from Rome. We did not feel that we needed to rent a car here.
Our trip to Athens (2019)
*My most recent trip recap.*
Day 1:
We flew in from Italy and arrived in the afternoon. We headed straight to our hostel to check in. Once we were settled, we headed out to do some sight seeing! The first stop we made was to go to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Temple of Kronos and Rhea. We then walked over to the Panathenaic Stadium. We got there after the sun had set and so we saw it with all the lights on and it was an amazing to see! Afterwards we just walked to the nearest restaruant for dinner and then headed back to our hostel for the night.
Day 2:
The next morning we woke up bright and early to start to see as much as we could on our last day! We headed over to the Acropolis loop. During our walk we saw:
Monument of Thrasyllos
Odeon of Herodes Atticus
Parthenon
Erechtheion
Temple of Rome and Augustus
Hadrian's Library
Agora of Athens
It was all very impressive! In hindsight, I wish I had done a guided tour and if I get the chance to go back in the future i'll do a tour to learn more about the archeological aspects of the sites. We hiked literally all day long, decided not to stop for lunch and went until dinner. For dinner I got a greek salad at a restuarant that was on the way back to the hostel.
Food
All of the food that we ate was delicious!
Some foods to try are:
Greek Salad
Spanakopita
Pastitsio
Lodging
We stayed in a hostel.
